First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a sedative called dexmedetomidine during and after mitral valve surgery can prevent a common heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation. About 140 adults having this surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the drug or a placebo. The goal is to see if the drug reduces the number of people who develop this irregular heartbeat soon after surgery.
