Brain pressure breakthrough? drug cocktail shows promise in surgery
NCT ID NCT07064720
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether adding dexmedetomidine to the standard drug mannitol can better control brain pressure during robotic prostate surgery. Sixty adults participated. The main goal was to measure changes in the optic nerve sheath, a marker of brain pressure. The study is complete, but results are not yet published.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- dexmedetomidine added to mannitol
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a better way to control dangerous brain pressure during surgery, potentially reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (60 people) in a specific surgery type. Results may not apply to other situations, and the drug combination could cause side effects like low blood pressure or slow heart rate.
