New steroid implant schedule may boost vision in diabetic eye disease

NCT ID NCT04116398

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests a more proactive treatment plan for diabetic macular edema, a condition that causes vision loss. Instead of waiting for severe swelling to return, participants receive two steroid implants within 12 weeks, then additional injections only as needed. The goal is to improve vision better than current standard care while keeping the number of injections low. About 53 adults with significant macular thickening are enrolled.
