Summary

This study looked at whether community organizations can successfully run a healthy lifestyle program called Deaf Weight Wise (DWW) for Deaf adults who use American Sign Language. The program involved 16 weekly group sessions led by a trained Deaf counselor via Zoom. Researchers measured how many sites delivered the program as planned and tracked changes in participants' eating habits. The goal was to see if this approach could be used more widely to promote healthier living in the Deaf community.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Deaf Weight Wise (DWW) behavioral intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that community organizations can effectively run healthy lifestyle programs for Deaf ASL users, improving access to weight management support.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed implementation study (85 participants) focused on how the program was delivered, not on health outcomes. Results may not apply to other regions or groups.
