New hope for heart patients: dabigatran tested against warfarin in High-Risk group

NCT ID NCT04045093

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether the blood thinner dabigatran is as safe and effective as warfarin for preventing strokes in people with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and moderate to severe mitral stenosis (narrowed heart valve). About 370 adults will take either dabigatran or warfarin and be monitored for strokes, blood clots, heart attacks, and heart-related deaths. The goal is to find a better treatment option for this high-risk group.
