Ice pack or cold rinse: simple chill may ease root canal pain
NCT ID NCT07138365
First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tested two types of cold therapy (cryotherapy) to see if they can reduce pain and inflammation after root canal treatment in people with infected lower premolars. Thirty adults were split into three groups: one used an ice pack on the cheek, another had a cold saline rinse inside the tooth, and a third received standard care. Pain levels and a chemical linked to inflammation (substance P) were measured. The goal is to find a simple, drug-free way to ease post-treatment discomfort.
