Can magnesium or lidocaine stop Post-Surgery coughing?

NCT ID NCT07213037

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding magnesium sulfate or lidocaine to a standard sedative (dexmedetomidine) better prevents coughing after functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Coughing after this surgery can cause bleeding and slow recovery. About 102 adults will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two drug combinations, and researchers will grade their cough severity as they wake up from anesthesia.
