Proton vs x-ray: which radiation is safer for breast cancer patients?

Summary

This study compares standard X-ray radiation with newer proton beam radiation in women who have had surgery for breast cancer. The goal is to see which type causes fewer serious side effects or the need for additional surgeries. About 146 women with early to locally advanced breast cancer will be followed for two years after treatment.
