ICU breakthrough: finding the best way to remove breathing tubes from overweight patients

NCT ID NCT07114289

Summary

This study compares two different breathing test methods to determine which one better prepares overweight and obese ICU patients to have their breathing tubes safely removed. Researchers will test 100 adult patients who have been on ventilators for over 24 hours, randomly assigning them to either pressure support ventilation or T-piece breathing trials. The main goal is to find which method leads to more successful breathing tube removal without patients needing the tube reinserted within 72 hours.
