Breathing tube showdown: PSV vs T-Piece in overweight ICU patients
NCT ID NCT07114289
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study compares two methods (pressure support ventilation and T-piece) used to test if overweight ICU patients are ready to have their breathing tube removed. About 100 adults with a BMI of 25 or higher who have been on a ventilator for over 24 hours will be randomly assigned to one method for one hour. The goal is to see which approach leads to more successful tube removals without needing to put the tube back in within 72 hours.
