This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting
Registered, but not yet taking participants.

Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

Summary

This study tests whether a pulmonary rehabilitation program guided by exercise testing works better than standard physiotherapy for people with dysfunctional breathing. 78 adults will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The goal is to see which approach improves breathing patterns and symptoms more effectively.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Respiratory physiotherapy and pulmonary rehabilitation
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a tailored exercise and breathing program works better than standard physiotherapy for people with dysfunctional breathing.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 78 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The study compares two non-drug treatments, so any benefit is likely modest.

Study facts

What this study's own registry entry says, in plain language.

Phase

Not a phased trial

Phase numbers describe drug development. The registry uses this when they do not apply, as it does for trials of devices, procedures or behaviour changes, and for observational studies.

Participants

About 78 people

The number the study aims to enrol. It can still change while the study runs.

Copied word for word from the study's registry entry, so the wording is the study team's rather than ours.

Inclusion Criteria: * Dysfunctional breathing (DB) diagnosed with CPET. * Adult patients (\>18 years of age) * Able and willing to attend an outpatient multidisciplinary, supervised rehabilitation program of a total duration of two months (8 weeks). * Able and willing to attend 5 physiotherapy sessions over a period of 9 weeks. * Sign an informed consent. Exclusion Criteria: * No underling pathology explaining dyspnea and DB in CPET (e.g normal dead space to tidal volume ratio (VD/Vt) and normal alveolar-arterial (A-a) gradient.) * Patients with COPD * Patients with uncontrolled asthma * Patients with post-exertional malaise (PEM). * Patients that cannot attend an outpatient rehabilitation program like suffering from dementia, chronically paralyzed, with paraplegia, multiple injuries, or other serious orthopaedic problems that cause disability or suffer from very serious underlying diseases such as end-stage cancer, and patients with neurological diseases that cause disability, require specialized rehabilitation clinics and special interventions (speech therapy, kinesiotherapy, etc.).
