New gel offers hope for breast cancer prevention with fewer side effects
NCT ID NCT04570956
Summary
This study aimed to find a better way to prevent breast cancer in women at high risk. It compared a standard oral pill (tamoxifen) to a new topical gel applied to the breast, hoping the gel would work just as well but cause fewer body-wide side effects. Researchers planned to check for early signs of the drugs' effects by taking small breast tissue samples before and after a short course of treatment. The trial was terminated early and did not complete its planned enrollment.
