Lung 'Zapping' procedure could slash severe asthma attacks in Hard-to-Treat patients
NCT ID NCT07292805
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tests a procedure called bronchial thermoplasty (BT) for adults with severe asthma that remains uncontrolled even with biologic drugs. BT uses a thin tube to deliver heat to the airway walls, aiming to reduce muscle overreactivity. Researchers will compare asthma attack rates and quality of life over 12 months between those who receive BT and those who continue standard care. The goal is to see if BT offers a cost-effective way to control severe asthma and reduce reliance on long-term medications.
