New device may slash blood transfusions in High-Risk heart surgery
NCT ID NCT06328647
First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether a point-of-care device (Quantra) that quickly measures blood clotting can guide doctors to give fewer blood transfusions during and after complex heart surgery. About 666 adults having high-risk heart procedures will be randomly assigned to either the device-guided approach or standard care. The goal is to see if using the device reduces the total number of red blood cells, plasma, and platelet transfusions needed.
