Can blood stem cells predict vision loss in diabetes?

NCT ID NCT02119689

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at blood stem cells (called EPCs) in people with diabetes and healthy volunteers to see if these cells work differently in diabetes. Researchers want to know if the function of these cells can predict diabetic retinopathy, an eye disease that can cause blurred vision or blindness. The study involves a blood draw and a simple fingertip test.
