Can blood stem cells predict vision loss in diabetes?
NCT ID NCT02119689
First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at blood stem cells (called EPCs) in people with diabetes and healthy volunteers to understand why they may not work properly in diabetes. Researchers want to see if these cells can predict the development of diabetic retinopathy, an eye disease that can cause blurred vision or blindness. The study involves a blood draw and a simple finger test, and does not test any new treatment.
