Hidden danger: muscle disease linked to deadly clots
NCT ID NCT03424460
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates why people with myotonic dystrophy type 1 are 10 times more likely to develop dangerous blood clots in the legs or lungs. Researchers will compare blood samples from 130 participants—including patients with the disease, those with a history of clots, and healthy volunteers—to look for clotting abnormalities. The goal is to understand the cause, which could lead to better prevention strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this research could point toward ways to prevent life-threatening blood clots in people with myotonic dystrophy type 1.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead directly to new therapies, and the findings might not apply to all patients.
