Simple swallow test could spot esophagus cancer risk in silent sufferers
NCT ID NCT06687603
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study aims to see if a new office-based test can detect Barrett's esophagus—a condition that can lead to esophageal cancer—in people who do not have chronic heartburn. About 800 adults will answer a questionnaire, swallow a capsule balloon to collect cells, and have a lab test. They will also get a standard upper endoscopy to confirm results. The goal is to find a simpler way to screen for this condition in a wider population.
