New combo therapy aims to beat stubborn virus in transplant patients

NCT ID NCT06853184

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding an investigational drug called artesunate to standard antiviral therapy works better than standard therapy alone for treating cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in people who have received a solid organ transplant (kidney, lung, heart, or liver). About 90 adult participants will receive either the combination or standard care. The goal is to see if the combination reduces the amount of virus in the blood more effectively.
