Statins before brain stents: could this simple pill slash stroke risk?

NCT ID NCT06308952

First seen Mar 04, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking atorvastatin (a cholesterol-lowering drug) before a brain stent procedure can prevent strokes and keep the stent open. About 354 people with brain aneurysms will receive either atorvastatin or a placebo before their stent surgery and be followed for one year. The goal is to see if this simple pretreatment reduces serious complications like stroke and stent narrowing.
