First seen Dec 17, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tested whether a common antiviral drug, valacyclovir, could slow memory decline in people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who also carry the herpes simplex virus. Fifty participants took either the drug or a placebo for 52 weeks. The goal was to see if treating the virus could reduce brain changes linked to Alzheimer's disease. This was an early-phase trial to gather initial evidence.
