First seen Dec 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested whether a common antiviral drug, valacyclovir, could slow memory decline in people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who also carry antibodies for herpes simplex virus. Fifty adults aged 50-95 took either the drug or a placebo for 52 weeks. The goal was to see if the drug could reduce brain changes linked to Alzheimer's disease and preserve thinking skills.
