AI vs. microscope: could computer diagnosis replace lab tests for colon polyps?

NCT ID NCT06062095

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether an artificial intelligence (AI) system can accurately identify the type of colon polyps during a colonoscopy, compared to standard visual inspection by the doctor. Over 1,700 adults having a colonoscopy will be randomly assigned to either AI-assisted or standard diagnosis. If AI proves reliable, it could allow doctors to decide on follow-up care immediately, reducing the need for lab analysis and lowering healthcare costs.
