AI could slash unnecessary pancreatic surgeries, new trial shows

NCT ID NCT07439757

First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests an artificial intelligence system that reads contrast-enhanced CT scans to help doctors decide the best course of action for pancreatic diseases. The AI sorts patients into three groups: need treatment, need close monitoring, or routine follow-up. Researchers aim to see if the AI can match or beat expert doctors in accuracy, reduce missed cancers, and cut down on unnecessary surgeries. About 2,000 adults with suspected pancreatic issues will take part.
