Surgery training goes gamified: AI game takes on the box trainer
NCT ID NCT07276022
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Sep 10, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two ways to train surgeons in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery: an AI-enhanced game-based simulator (Laptitude) versus a standard box trainer (SurgTrac). About 157 surgical trainees with varying experience will be randomly assigned to one method and then tested on skills like peg transfer and suturing. The goal is to see if the game-based approach leads to faster, better skill acquisition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- AI-enhanced game-based simulation tool (Laptitude) and laparoscopic simulator box trainer (SurgTrac)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that a fun, AI-powered game is a better way to train surgeons, potentially making training faster and more accessible.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, early-stage trial comparing training tools, not a treatment. Results may not apply to real surgery or all learners.
