3D ultrasound may make epidurals safer for obese moms
NCT ID NCT03405311
First seen Feb 24, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study looked at whether using a 3D ultrasound device (Accuro) helps place epidural needles more easily in obese pregnant women (BMI 40 or higher) compared to the usual blind method. The goal was to reduce the number of needle sticks and improve pain relief success. The study was stopped early, but results could help guide future care for this high-risk group.
