Scientists 3D print a spine to unravel back pain

NCT ID NCT07250126

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study aims to create a realistic 3D-printed model of a spinal disc using human cells. Researchers will compare the genes of cells from real discs to those grown in the lab model to see how well it mimics the real thing. The goal is to develop a better tool for studying degenerative disc disease without needing to involve patients directly. The study involves 5 adults aged 30-70 who are already scheduled for spine surgery.
