Radioactive 'Smart Bomb' targets Hard-to-Treat cancers in first human test

NCT ID NCT05283330

First seen Jan 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This early-stage trial tests a new drug called 212Pb-DOTAM-GRPR1, which delivers a tiny dose of radiation directly to cancer cells that have a specific marker (GRPR). The study will include 48 adults with advanced cancers such as prostate, breast, lung, colon, cervical, or brain cancer that have come back or spread. The main goal is to find a safe dose and see if the drug can shrink tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

212Pb-DOTAM-GRPR1 (a radioactive drug that targets GRPR on cancer cells)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for several advanced cancers that have stopped responding to standard therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 48 participants, so safety and effectiveness are not yet known. The drug may cause side effects from radiation or may not shrink tumors.

Conditions
