Can a targeted pill boost lung cancer treatment?

NCT ID NCT07777822

First seen Aug 20, 2026 · Last updated Aug 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 3 trial is investigating whether adding an investigational drug called zoldonrasib to standard first-line treatment (pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy) can help people with metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer that has a specific genetic mutation (RAS G12D). Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the new drug combination or a placebo with the standard treatment. The study aims to see if the addition of zoldonrasib improves how long people live without their cancer progressing.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
zoldonrasib (an investigational RAS(ON) inhibitor) combined with pembrolizumab and platinum-based chemotherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new first-line treatment option for people with metastatic non-squamous NSCLC carrying the RAS G12D mutation, potentially extending the time before the cancer progresses.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage test in a specific patient group, and the drug may not improve outcomes or could cause additional side effects. Results are not yet available.
