Weight loss pill shows promise in fighting painful kidney stones

NCT ID NCT04621929

Summary

This study tested whether a weight loss medication (phentermine/topiramate) could help control kidney stone formation in people who are obese and have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Over 18 months, researchers compared the medication against standard treatments in a small group of 19 participants who had a history of uric acid kidney stones. The goal was to see if the drug could reduce stones by promoting weight loss and making urine less acidic.
