New chemo combo shows promise against esophageal cancer

NCT ID NCT00213486

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested a weekly combination of two chemotherapy drugs (cisplatin and irinotecan) along with radiation in 43 people with advanced esophageal cancer that hadn't spread to other organs. The main goal was to see how many patients had no cancer detectable after treatment. Researchers also tracked side effects and how long patients lived. This approach aims to control the disease rather than cure it.
