Water vapor or laser: which prostate treatment saves your sex life?
NCT ID NCT07648875
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two procedures for enlarged prostate: water vapor therapy (Rezum) and a special laser technique that aims to preserve ejaculation. 120 sexually active men aged 50+ with moderate-to-severe symptoms will choose their treatment after counseling. The main goal is to see which approach better maintains ejaculatory function over 12 months, while also tracking urinary relief and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Water vapor thermal therapy (Rezum) and ejaculation-preserving holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (EP-HoLEP)
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could show which procedure better preserves ejaculatory function while treating enlarged prostate symptoms, helping men choose the right option.
What could go wrong
This is a small, non-randomized study with 120 participants, so results may not apply to all men. Both procedures carry risks like infection, bleeding, or urinary problems.
