Downhill treadmill training could boost walking recovery after spinal injury

NCT ID NCT05337982

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study is testing a new rehabilitation program for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) that combines walking downhill on a treadmill with mild electrical stimulation to activate weak muscles. Researchers will also check blood and spinal fluid for biomarkers to decide whether to start training right away or wait three months. The goal is to see if this approach improves walking and movement better than standard rehab alone. The study includes 49 participants with SCI and healthy volunteers for comparison.
