VR and relaxation techniques tested to calm heart patients
NCT ID NCT06215066
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether virtual reality (VR) or modified progressive muscle relaxation (MPMR) can reduce anxiety and improve attention in 158 heart patients in a cardiac care unit. Patients used VR goggles to watch calming 3D nature scenes or practiced relaxing specific muscle groups while breathing deeply. Researchers measured changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety levels to see which method worked better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
virtual reality and modified progressive muscle relaxation
What this could lead to
If effective, these techniques could provide simple, non-drug ways to help heart patients feel calmer and more focused during hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with no phase designation, so results may not apply broadly. The interventions are short-term and may not work for everyone.
