Virtual reality headsets calm transplant patients in ICU

NCT ID NCT05125406

Summary

This study tested whether virtual reality therapy could prevent anxiety, depression, and PTSD in lung transplant patients recovering in the intensive care unit. Patients on the transplant waiting list used VR headsets to gradually experience simulated ICU sounds and environments, aiming to build familiarity and reduce fear. The goal was to improve mental health and recovery by helping patients adapt to the stressful hospital setting before and after their transplant.
