VR and lavender aim to replace pain pills after major surgery
NCT ID NCT04912531
Summary
This study is testing whether a combination of virtual reality (VR) and pleasant scents can help reduce pain and anxiety for people recovering from major heart or lung surgery. The goal is to see if this drug-free approach can be a practical alternative to strong pain medications like opioids, which can have serious side effects. About 80 patients will be randomly assigned to either try the VR and scent sessions before and after their surgery or to receive their doctor's usual care.
