NCT ID NCT07666867

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether short virtual reality sessions can reduce burnout and increase self-compassion in healthcare workers. 52 participants will either use a VR headset or read a booklet with compassion-focused exercises over 4-6 weeks. The goal is to see if VR is a practical and effective tool for supporting mental health in high-stress medical jobs.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Virtual reality delivered compassion-focused cognitive behavioral therapy sessions

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a quick, scalable way to help healthcare workers manage stress and prevent burnout.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study with only 52 participants. The VR approach may not be more effective than a simple booklet, and some people may experience motion sickness.
