New surgical approach may lower brain pressure during hysterectomy

NCT ID NCT07250178

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looked at 66 women having hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) to compare two surgical methods: traditional laparoscopic surgery and a newer vaginal approach called vNOTES. The goal was to see if vNOTES causes less pressure on the brain during the procedure. Researchers measured the thickness of the optic nerve sheath as a stand-in for brain pressure. The findings could help choose safer surgical techniques.
