New surgical tweak during no-cut hysterectomy aims to stop pelvic organ sagging

NCT ID NCT07413861

First seen Feb 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a simple stitch to support the top of the vagina during a scarless hysterectomy (vNOTES) can help prevent pelvic organ prolapse later on. Fifty women having a vNOTES hysterectomy for non-cancer reasons will be enrolled. The surgeons will measure vaginal length, pain, and complications compared to the standard vNOTES procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Uterosacral suspension procedure

What this could lead to

If successful, this could become a standard step in vNOTES hysterectomy to reduce the risk of future pelvic organ prolapse.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study (50 participants) with no blinding or randomization. The added surgical step may increase operative time or complication risk without clear long-term benefit.
