Vitamin K2 supplement tested as new migraine treatment
NCT ID NCT05943457
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking vitamin K2 supplements daily for 6 months can reduce the number of migraine days in adults with episodic migraine. Researchers will also measure if it improves artery stiffness, which is often higher in people with migraines. 160 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either vitamin K2 or a placebo pill.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7) supplement
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost supplement to reduce migraine frequency and improve blood vessel health.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with 160 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Supplements can have side effects, and the benefit over placebo may be small or none.
