Could a vitamin d cocktail fix deficiency in kids with liver disease?
NCT ID NCT07670611
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding calcitriol to vitamin D2 helps children with cholestatic liver disease correct their vitamin D deficiency faster than vitamin D2 alone. Cholestasis makes it hard for the body to absorb vitamin D. The trial will enroll 54 children and track vitamin D levels, safety, and side effects over 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Vitamin D2 and Calcitriol
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a faster, more effective way to correct vitamin D deficiency in children with cholestatic liver disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 54 participants. The combination may not work better than vitamin D2 alone, and there is a risk of high calcium or phosphorus levels.
