First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This pilot study will test whether virtual Reiki therapy can reduce pain and improve well-being in people with lupus. Twenty adults with lupus will receive 20-minute Reiki sessions once a week for 8 weeks, delivered remotely by a certified practitioner. Researchers will measure changes in pain levels and see if patients find the virtual sessions helpful and easy to stick with.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Virtual Reiki therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a gentle, drug-free way to help manage pain and stress for people with lupus.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 20 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Reiki is not proven to treat the disease itself, and benefits may be due to relaxation rather than the therapy.
