First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a virtual reality headset and scented necklace can lower pain and anxiety in people recovering from heart or lung surgery. Researchers want to see if this approach is a safe, drug-free alternative to opioids and anxiety medications. About 80 adults scheduled for certain cardiothoracic surgeries will be randomly assigned to either receive the VR and scent therapy or standard care.
