First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether using a virtual reality headset can help people receiving palliative care achieve personal goals, such as relaxation or bucket-list experiences. Up to 12 patients and their companions will try up to 3 VR sessions. Researchers will track mood, anxiety, and goal progress to see if VR is effective.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Virtual reality headset

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that VR is a useful tool for improving wellbeing and achieving personal goals in palliative care.

What could go wrong

This is a very small study (12 people) with no control group, so results may not apply widely. It only measures short-term effects, and VR may not help everyone.
