Talking computer teaches doctors to deliver bad news

NCT ID NCT07615621

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a new way to train doctors in difficult conversations, like breaking bad news. 195 resident doctors were split into three groups: one trained with an adaptive virtual patient that changed its emotions based on the doctor's words, one with a non-adaptive virtual patient, and one with a human actor. The goal was to see if the adaptive computer training improved real-world communication skills more than the other methods.
