First seen Aug 21, 2026 · Last updated Aug 21, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether virtual cooking classes, held twice a month for three months, can help teenagers with type 1 diabetes improve their blood sugar control and learn healthier eating habits. Participants, aged 12 to 17 with a BMI at or above the 85th percentile, will either receive these classes alongside their usual diabetes care or continue with routine care alone. The study measures changes in HbA1c, weight, BMI, and nutrition knowledge to see if the cooking program makes a difference.

What this could lead to
If effective, this program could offer a practical, budget-friendly way to help teens with type 1 diabetes improve blood sugar control and learn healthier eating habits.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is educational, and benefits may vary; there is also a risk that participation may not lead to significant improvements.
