Heart surgery patients watch video, anxiety may drop
NCT ID NCT06801145
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether showing patients a video about the intensive care unit (ICU) before open-heart surgery could lower their anxiety and improve their ICU experience. 110 adults scheduled for planned open-heart surgery were enrolled. The video was shown 48 hours before surgery. Researchers measured anxiety and ICU experience using standard questionnaires. The goal is to find a simple way to help patients feel more prepared and less stressed.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could give hospitals a simple, low-cost way to help heart surgery patients feel less anxious and more comfortable in the ICU.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with 110 patients. The results may not apply to all hospitals or surgery types, and the effect on actual recovery is not measured.
