New chest tube method may cut complications after heart surgery
NCT ID NCT07505966
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at two methods of draining blood and fluid from the chest after heart surgery. It compared a newer active clearance method that keeps tubes open with standard passive drainage. Researchers reviewed records of 250 adult patients from three heart surgery centers to see which method led to fewer complications like retained blood, reoperations, and shorter hospital stays. No new treatments were given; the goal is to improve future care.
