New drug could change kidney transplants forever
NCT ID NCT07290777
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new drug called VEL-101 in 120 kidney transplant patients. The goal is to see if VEL-101 can safely replace the standard drug tacrolimus, which often causes side effects. Researchers will monitor for rejection, side effects, and how the drug behaves in the body.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
VEL-101 (also called Pegrizeprument or FR104)
What this could lead to
If successful, VEL-101 could offer kidney transplant patients a new option that may have fewer side effects than current standard drugs like tacrolimus.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 120 participants, so results are preliminary. The drug may not prove safer or more effective than existing treatments, and there is a risk of rejection or serious side effects.
