Gut bacteria joins fight against advanced cancer

NCT ID NCT04208958

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether adding a new investigational therapy called VE800—a preparation of specific bacteria—could improve the effectiveness of an existing immunotherapy drug (nivolumab) in patients with advanced or metastatic cancers. The trial enrolled 56 patients with melanoma, stomach, or colorectal cancer to primarily check the safety of the combination and see if it helped shrink tumors. Researchers wanted to see if the bacteria could boost the body's immune system to better attack the cancer.
